Current Read #10

This week, only one of the books I'm reading has more than one cover edition and that book is The Weaver and the Witch Queen by Genevieve Gornichec! I read and loved Gornichec's The Witch's Heart last year, so I'm hoping to enjoy this one just as much, and so far so good. I think both covers for this book are beautiful, so let's take a look at them.

2023 US Ace Hardcover

2023 UK Titan Books Paperback

My choice(s):
 I really like that both covers match the styles of the covers for The Witch's Heart (US and UK). I really like both of these covers and think they match the overall atmosphere of the story well so far. I'm slightly leaning towards the US cover more, but I don't think you can go wrong with either! Which cover do you prefer?

Current Read #9

For this week's currently reading Friday Face-Off, I've gone with the only book I'm currently reading that actually has multiple editions: The Cloisters by Katy Hays! I'm enjoying this one so far, but I'm not sure how it's going to go and I could see things either getting much better or much worse, so I guess time will tell! That being said, I love the covers that are out there for this book, which include the US, UK, and an exclusive Goldsboro clothbound cover. Let's take a look!

2022 US Hardcover

2022 UK Hardcover

2022 Exclusive Goldsboro Edition

My choice(s):
I really like all of these covers, actually! I think the US cover is beautiful with its dark coloring that really highlights the title in a somewhat ominous and intriguing way. I also like the skulls and cover on the UK edition, but I'd probably choose the Goldsboro edition of it out of the two because I think the black and white is very dramatic and fits the story a bit better. Which cover(s) do you prefer?

For this week's Friday Face-Off, I'm highlighting some gorgeous editions of Min Jin Lee's Pachinko! I've been meaning to read this book for years because I knew I was going to love it, and now that I've finally gotten around to reading it, sure enough, I'm loving it. It also has a nice variety of beautiful editions out there, so let's have a look at those. (I got a little carried away this time because there were just so many stunning covers that I had to keep adding them–and this isn't even all of them!)

2017 US Hardcover | 2017 Kindle Edition | 2018 Spanish

2017 US Paperback | 2018 German | 2018 Greek

2018 Dutch | 2018 Swedish | 2018 Persian

2022 French | 2023 Portuguese | 2018 Hungarian

2019 Serbian | 2018 Russian | 2023 Thai

My choice(s):
I don't even know how to pick! I think the Kindle, Swedish, Russian and Dutch editions are really beautiful, but the Portuguese edition really took my breath away when I saw it. Although I would happily own any one of these editions, I think that's probably the one I'd want the most! I'm currently reading the US paperback and really like that one as well. Which cover(s) do you like the most?

For this week's Friday Face-Off, I've chosen to feature a book that I just finished yesterday, Island of the Lost by Joan Druett! I love reading about real life survival stories and was excited to finally read this one... and unfortunately it ended up being one of my least favorite of all the ones I've read. 🤣 But that's okay! Let's still take a look at all of the different cover editions that exist for it.

2007 US Hardcover | 2016 Audiobook

2019 US Paperback | 2007 UK

My choice(s):
I love the classic feel of the original US hardcover edition, though I also like the dark and slightly more ominous feeling that the 2019 paperback evokes. The original one reminds me of the title scene of some older documentary or movie–does anyone else get that vibe or just me??

For this week's Friday Face-Off, I've chosen to feature Camp Zero by Michelle Min Sterling! I'm almost done reading this book at the time of making this book and so far I've been really enjoying it. This was an April ARC, so I'm a little behind, but better late than never, right? I was excited to see that this book had a small variety of cover editions to explore, so let's take a look!

2023 US Hardcover | 2023 Canada | 2023 French

2023 US Kindle (?) | 2023 UK

My choice(s):
I actually think all of these are really great covers! The Canadian one reminds me a lot of the cover for Station Eleven, which definitely gives off a specific vibe. I think the UK cover is really cool and I love the colors included. I think both US editions and the French edition fit the story the best, but honestly I don't think you can go wrong with any of these covers! Which cover(s) do you like best?

The Friday Face-Off: Currently Reading–Author Edition

Currently Reading–Author Edition

Since none of the four books I"m currently reading seem to have more than one edition of the cover out there so far, I decided to get a little creative and see if any of the authors of the books I'm reading have other books with more cover editions (and they do!). I'm currently reading M.R. Carey's Infinity Gate, so I figured I'd share some covers for another book from M.R. Carey that I really enjoyed, The Book of Koli! This one has some great covers to compare, so let's take a look.

2020 US Paperback | 2020 French

2021 Bulgarian | 2021 German

My choice(s):
These covers are all so cool! I'm partial to the US edition, but I also think the French, Bulgarian, and German editions are all incredible as well. I'm not sure I could even pick just one for this. I actually think the US and German editions fit the story the best, but I still love the illustration for the Bulgarian edition and love what's going on with the French one. What do you think?

I'm reading four books right now and only one of them has more than one cover edition to compare, and that is Small Game by Blair Braverman! There's only one other edition currently out so I thought it'd make for a good one-on-one comparison.

2022 US Hardcover

2023 US Large Print Release

My choice(s):
I love that we have a similar theme going on and include the three circles with fires (?) in them in both for continuity. I'm not entirely sure why those are the design choice, but I think they work. I'm definitely partial to the 2022 US edition because I feel like it flows a bit better and I like the overall design more, but I do also think the larger amount of gorgeous green forest in the large print edition looks beautiful as well. What do you think?

For this week's current read, I'm featuring some editions of a book I just finished reading earlier in the week, Master of Sorrows by Justin Call. This was actually a re-read because I wanted to finally get around to finishing the sequel in preparation for the third book, and my memory needed a big refresher before doing so. I'm pleased to say that I think I enjoyed Master of Sorrows even more the second time around, and I'm loving Master Artificer (book #2) now! With all that being said, let's check out some of the gorgeous covers that exist for Master of Sorrows.

2019 US Hardcover | 2019 German

2019 UK Hardcover | 2019 ARC

My choice(s):
There are some great editions out there, but I think it's probably understable when I say that the original US hardcover is easily my favorite. It's absolutely stunning, and it's even more gorgeous in person (and very heavy!). The UK edition is obviously basically the same thing, but with a brighter gold which I do think pops quite nicely. I also had to include the ARC version because I love its design and tagline. Which edition do you like the most?

This week I'm working my way through an ARC of Justin Lee Anderson's The Lost War and I'm having a great time with it! This book was originally self-published and has now been picked up by Orbit with a new release date in May, so it has a few cover editions in existence already. Let's have a look at them!

2023 Orbit US Paperback | 2019 Paperback

2020 Kindle Edition | 2020 Audiobook Edition

My choice(s):
I actually quite like the original 2019 paperback edition cover of this one! I like the green and general idea of what Orbit is doing with the new edition, but I don't really care for the general illustrations of the characters and the style they used, which reminds me of the style they did for Sam Sykes' Seven Blades in Black, which I really disliked. And that Kindle edition looks pretty epic as well! Which cover(s) do you like the most?
